Come out swingin'

Every single year, around December 23rd, 28th, I'm asked by many, "What's your New Year's Resolution?" to which I reply, "I don't have one."

I don't smoke. I don't drink too much. I'm not overweight. I don't gamble. My finances are okay. I can NEVER think of something to give up, and that's a great thing. But then I thought, what could I take on? You see, I coast. I excel in life, in school, at work, in my relationships without exerting much effort. Because of this, I confess, that it's rare that I challenge myself. Well, all that changed this year...

I decided for 2010 I wanted to accomplish running a half marathon; 13.1 miles. I can run 3, 4 miles with ease. But I haven't found the will to push myself. I have lacked any drive to go beyond what is easy. So I decided that running 13 miles is possible, it's something that I am capable doing, but it won't be with ease. I'll have to step out of my comfort zone, work harder than ever before, train, rely on others, and challenge myself mentally and physically.

To that I say "Hell Yea!"

So, that little tiny picture up there, that's my confirmation of registering. On January 30th, I dropped $100 on registering for the Women's Running Magazine Half Marathon in St. Pete, FL on November 21st. Why Florida? Why this half?

Well, I live in Upstate NY and I enjoy running in the summer, when it's hot. In order to do a half marathon in my neck of the woods, I would have had to start training in February. There's such a thing as knowing your limitations. My boyfriend use to live in St. Pete and we like to go there a couple of times a year to visit. What a better reason to head South?! Lastly, I LOVE all-womens races, love them. I've done all-female 5Ks and found them to be empowering, energizing, and down-right emotional. I'm ready for this half to be all of that, and so much more.

Why the blog?

I would love to chronicle my journey, my runs, my mistakes, my learning, my tips, my experiences, and my successes. It's a great place to learn and to grow. It's one teeny, tiny bit of the interweb devoted to my half marathon journey.

And you know what, You can bring it, because I'm gonna run that whole darn half!
